Description
The cultural phenomenon of "fairy houses" apparently originated spontaneously on a few Maine islands, but in recent years, these charming, wee shelters made from leaves, moss, twigs, stones, bark, shells, feathers, and other found items have caught the imaginations of parents and children everywhere. This book showcases outstanding examples of fairy houses made exclusively from natural materials and delves into the history and folklore associated with garden and woodland fairies. It also includes tips on constructing your own fairy house!

Summary: "Charming, wonderal book"
This book will take you about 1/2 hour to read. Its charming stories within, attached to many beautiful photographs of fairy houses, is a wonderful reading experience. By the way, the author is associated with the Maine Coastal Botanical Gardens and the fairy house shown on the cover is prominently displayed there. Each year, the Gardens has its Fairy House weekend, filled with many magical activities for children. What an extraordinary kid-friendly, kid-fun day--I was awe-struck just watching the pure joy of kids everywhere--many fairies "flying," bubbles bouncing on air, music, sand-box play, making crafts--what a treat!

Summary: "Beautiful book!"
I have had many happy times on Mackworth Island, Maine building fairy houses with my 8 year old granddaughter! She has several "fairy house" books by this author, but was particularly thrilled to learn that this new book is written about Maine and "our special spot"! This book is full of beauty and magic ... even for a grandmother!

Summary: "Enthusiastically recommended for fairy enthusiasts of all ages"
We have beside our home a 'fairy garden'. It's a raised bed dedicated to miniature flowers and occasionally tall but elegant plants that would immanently suit the needs of the wee folk for purposes of residence and recreation. So it was with great pleasure that I leafed through the superbly illustrated pages of Maureen Heffernan's "Fairy Houses Of The Maine Coast". It seems that the forests, fields, an shores of Maine are admirably populated with the fairy folk as evidenced by an architectural wealth of homes they and others (especially children) have made for them. Of special note is the wonderful poetry and the informative commentary enhancing the beautifully photographed examples laid out in this 80-page compendium designed for young readers ages 9 through 12 -- but is enthusiastically recommended for fairy enthusiasts of all ages!

Summary: "Lovely"
Having been to Maine (Monhegan Island) I find this book a journey back there. I have seen many Fairy Houses, even built a few in their natural settings and this book does them justice.
